How to prevent the program from accessing the Internet in various ways
Almost all utilities receive and send different data and reports to the servers of developers. There is nothing terrible about it, so programs get update data. But if it interferes, you can think about how to prevent the program from accessing the Internet. It is not at all difficult to do. In addition, you can block the data of any utility in several simple ways.
How to prevent the program from accessing the Internet?
There are several ways to block utility communication with the development server:
- additional firewall;
- antivirus program.
Let us consider in more detail how to prohibit the program from accessing the Internet, which means are the easiest and most effective to use, and also what each of the ways represents.
What is a firewall?
A firewall is a program and hardware blocks that filter and control data received from the Internet. The term comes from German and literally denotes a wall that protects against fire (brand - fire, mauer - wall). It is also called the “firewall” (from the English. Firewall - firewall).
Before getting any data from the Internet, it is checked by a firewall and compared with the settings and protocols, as a result of which a verdict is made: skip or not skip. However, this component is able to work not only with incoming data, but also with outgoing data. For example, a program request for an update. A firewall, with the ability to manage this information, can help solve a problem regarding how to prevent the program from accessing the Internet. At the same time, it has some advantage: this function is already built into the operating system, therefore, no protection is required.
Block by firewall
How to prevent the program to access the Internet by firewall? This is not very difficult to do. Go to the “Control Panel” (which is in the “Start” menu), switch to categories if there are icons (you can do this in the upper right corner). Select "System and Security" \ "Windows Firewall". In the list of sections in the left column, go to “Advanced Options”.
At the same place (in the left pane) click on the “Rules for incoming connections”. From the list we find the rule for the desired program and disable it. If this utility is not listed, you can create a rule for it.
On the right, click on “Create a rule”. The panel for creating the rule opens. Type the rules leave “For the program”, then click "Browse" and select the program along the way. In the next section, put a dot on “Block connection” and in the “Profile” section, leave all the options checked. We call our rule - and “Done”. The same can be done with the outgoing data of the program, but for this you need to go to the “Rules for outgoing connection”.
No need to worry if the firewall doesn’t have enough capabilities, since it would probably be safer to prevent the program from accessing the Internet by a firewall.
Protection by unauthorized firewall
If you need more advanced protection and verification of incoming and outgoing data, you will need to get an additional firewall. On the Internet they are full, so consider the most powerful.
Quite a powerful utility that protects your computer from the invasion of unknown viruses and malicious programs while preserving confidential data about the user.
The utility utility includes:
- Enhanced protection of folders, files, register, COM objects, credit card numbers and passwords.
- Full compatibility with 32-bit and 64-bit Windows.
- Detection of new and unknown viruses that are not in the antivirus database, and so on.
SpyShelter Firewall provides a trial version for 14 days, a license costs from 25 euros. Present Russian language (go to Setting \ Language \ Russian.lng).
Outpost Firewall Pro
Very powerful firewall that protects your PC from known and unknown viruses and malware. It completely controls incoming and outgoing information from all programs, and also has the ability to completely block access to the network to any utility or to give unlimited access. It also reliably protects personal data and the contents of the hard disk from hacker attacks.
The trial version is given for 30 days, the license costs 450 rubles. There is a Russian language.
Perhaps one of the most powerful free firewalls that protects against unknown and known virus programs and Trojans, hacker attacks and controlling incoming and outgoing data from utilities. Supported by all Windows OS, from Vista to any bit depth. There is a Russian language.
Using NOD32 Smart Security
Some antiviruses can also help answer the question of how to prevent the program from accessing the Internet.NOD32 Smart Security is a great example of this.
We deploy antivirus from the taskbar (where the clock is). In the left pane of the sections, go to the settings and click “Go to advanced settings” at the bottom of the screen (this can also be done with the F5 key). The advanced settings window will open. Expand the section “Network” // ”Personal Firewall” // ”Rules and Zones”. Here we find the item “Zone and rules editor” and click on “Settings”. In this window in the “Rules” tab there is a list of utilities, among which you need to find the necessary. If there is none, click “Create”, since it will not work to prevent the program from accessing the Internet without a rule.
Fill in the “General” tab:
- Enter the name of the rule (preferably by program name, to figure it out later).
- Direction. We choose which type of traffic will be blocked: incoming (when the program receives data), outgoing (the program sends data) or any (both incoming and outgoing).
- We choose an action, that is, we allow or prohibit the transfer of information.
- We determine the protocol (if there is no idea what it is, we leave TCP & UDP).
- For which profile will the rule be (if there are several).
Now we need the “Local” tab. Click "Browse", find the utility that we want to block and click on "OK". Now you should not worry about how to prohibit the program to access the Internet.
