Oleg Ivanovich Romantsev is an odious figure in the history of Soviet and Russian football. The coach has eight championship titles behind him - more than anyone else in the Russian championship, and later - the Premier League. His services to the country are marked at the state level: coach Oleg Romantsev was awarded the title of master of sports of international class in 1980 and honored coach of the republic - in 1990. During the gaming and coaching work I changed several clubs, however, at the ordinary Russian fan, Oleg Ivanovich is primarily associated with Spartak Moscow.coach Oleg Romancer

Oleg Romantsev: biography and facts of life

An ordinary Soviet boy named Oleg was born in the family of Ivan and Claudia Romantsev in 1954 in the Ryazan region. His father, being a famous engineer, was forced to constantly move around the country, so the family did not spend more than a year in one place. In the 3rd grade of elementary school, Oleg Romantsev went to the city of Krasnoyarsk. In the same place, in the youth team of Avtomobilist (now FC Yenisei), where the boy brought the boy, he took the first steps in football.

Prospective guy very quickly attracted attention. Over time, they began to let him go to the adult team, although Oleg Romantsev was still at a very young age. Teammates and opponents of the game often wondered, because next to them on the field was almost a child.

The young defender literally drank in football. He played with the ball after class, attended team training sessions, and even when his teammates were already going to the locker room, Oleg stayed on the training ground and worked out the technique. With such perseverance and zeal for football, the guy could not remain unnoticed for a long time for professional clubs of the top Soviet division, so very soon Romantsev was invited to watch the “people's team”.Oleg Romancers biography

Spartacus

The young player got to the composition of the most popular football team in the USSR in two stages. In 1976, he debuted against the St. Petersburg "Zenith". Then, few of the spectators knew who Oleg Romantsev was. The footballer went to an uncharacteristic position for himself - in the attack, but could not help his team avoid defeat, which, by the way, cost the “red-white” place in the top league. The team at that time was divided into two opposing camps, the atmosphere was heated to the limit, so Romantsev left the club and returned to his native Krasnoyarsk.

However, very soon Konstantin Beskov came to the team, who returned order to the Spartak ranks. In the same way as returned and a talented defender. With the new mentor, Oleg Romantsev very quickly found a common language, and after a short time, the defender of Spartak became not just the captain, but also the symbol of the team.

In the rows of the “red-and-white” Romantsev spent 7 years, became the champion of the USSR and won the silver medal three times more. Oleg Ivanovich rather early (at the age of 29) ended his playing career due to a serious injury incompatible with the continuation of top-level performances.Oleg Romancer football player

Coaching career

Romantsev-coach from the first days on the coaching bridge “Spartak” managed to instill his team’s vision of football and the spirit of the winners. To some extent, it can be called innovative in Russia, because under Oleg Ivanovich almost the entire team had to play in the attack, with the exception of the goalkeeper and the central defenders.

With Spartak, Oleg Romantsev issued a powerful series of victories in the national championship (8 league titles), won the Russian Cup three times, and also reached the final and pre-final stages in the Champions Cup and the Cup Winners Cup.

Naturally, the work done by the coach can only be called a great achievement, but at the beginning of the new millennium, things began to decline. “Red-and-whites” very unfortunately acted in the Champions League 2001-2002, beating several anti-records at once. Bad things were going in the championship of Russia. In the summer of 2003, Oleg Ivanovich left the team, after which he briefly coached Moscow Dynamo and Saturn from Moscow Ramenskoye. It is worth noting that the championship he won with him has so far been the last for Spartak.

In the national team

Oleg Romantsev twice led the Russian national team. In 1996, the tricolor mentor managed to bring the team to the final part of Euro 96, but on the fields of England the team was brought to the field by another coach. The next achievement of Romantsev with the national team dates back to 2002. Russia was the first to finish in the selection for the World Championship, but in the final stage it took the last place in the group and was one of the first to go home. Those matches were the last for Oleg Ivanovich at the helm of the national team.

Romantsev graduated from coaching in 2005, but from 2009 to 2012 he worked as a consultant in the structure of “Spartacus”. From time to time he can be seen as a guest of analytical football programs on television.
