Talus foot. Fracture of the talus of the foot: consequences
Unfortunately, the eighty percent of world society consists of uneducated people. And this is expressed in all spheres of life. For example, many do not even know the structure of their own body and the rules for handling it.
Often, because of the failure to know the simple truths of life, the ram bone suffers. It is part of the ankle and is the second largest among its components. The talus is more than half covered with articular bruising. Its main function is to transfer the body mass of the person to the surface of the foot. And, unfortunately, it is according to statistics that it is most often prone to fractures. Why is this happening - read this article.
The ramus of the foot consists of the following parts:
- The back is a scion.
- Head or front.
The head is connected to the navicular bone, and the block is connected to the ankles, which cover it on both sides. The process is located in the posterior part and consists of two tubercles: lateral and medial.Between them is the tendon. However, there are cases when the lateral tubercle lies separately from the medial.
It feeds on bone from three arteries: tibia, tibia and back.
In its place it is supported by ligaments, but it does not have connections with muscles. Moreover, most of its surface consists of articular cartilage. And through it, the vessels supplying and strengthening the bone cannot penetrate. It follows that in this place the blood supply is not so developed, and if there was a fracture with displacement, this could lead to the development of avascular necrosis.
Causes of fracture
This injury can not be neglected. By the way, according to statistics, in almost all road accidents, the ram bone is the first to suffer. Fracture also threatens in the following situations:
- Excessive flexion of the joint. This phenomenon is observed at various overloads of the body.
- When falling. Height does not always play a big role. When landing on the legs, the load on them increases dramatically, which leads to various injuries.
- Flexing with turning out. Most often this happens in various accidents on the road.
Not every person can truly estimate the amount of damage done to himself. As a rule, during a fracture, the patient simply complains that the talus hurts. In addition to this symptom, there are others, the presence of which is usually alarming traumatologists:
- In fact, at the moment of injury, pains appear in the back of the ankle joint, which partially extend into the Achilles tendon.
- Impaired motor function.
- There is a strong swelling of the Achilles tendon. It extends to both sides of its connection with the heel knoll.
- Severe deformity.
Athletes very often do not attach importance to such injury, believing that there is nothing serious there. However, if the fracture is not cured in time, then pain may persist forever, which are only exacerbated by exertion.
Computed tomography and radiography are used to determine if the ankle is intact. It is these methods that make it possible to make the most accurate diagnosis and, in accordance with it, prescribe a rational treatment.
First of all, after getting the injury, the talus should be fixed. Fracture, if this is not done, may subsequently lead to serious complications. Carried out immobilization using a plaster cast. Moreover, if there was a fracture with an offset, then the arch of the foot and the ankle should be carefully modeled. Gypsum is worn for 3-4 weeks.
If measures were not taken immediately after receiving the injury, then in such cases, surgical treatment is most often carried out. It is aimed at the removal of the process of the talus. Intervention is prescribed if the usual treatment was not effective, as well as because of the constant sensation of pain. Approximately in 6-7 days it is allowed to walk, but with a support on a cane. UHF is prescribed for the fracture area. After the plaster cast was allowed to be removed, a special course of exercise therapy is prescribed, as well as physiotherapy, massages, the use of an instep. Physical activity is gradually increasing.
You can play sports in about 3 months. However, it is recommended not to subject the injured limb to excessive loads for several months.
According to statistics, a third of all talus fractures entail serious complications. These include persistent violations of its functioning, disability, which ultimately leads to disability.
The usual consequences are: maintaining persistent pain, loss of mobility of the foot.
So do not forget that if there was such an important part of the support apparatus, as a ram bone, a fracture, its consequences may be irreversible. And therefore should be very careful with this ailment.
Rehabilitation after fracture
Fortunately, despite the severity of the injury, this wonderful moment of removing the cast comes. When the talus has grown together, a very important period begins, during which its lost functions and capabilities should return to the whole leg. The rehabilitation course can be both short and long. It entirely depends on the recommendations of the attending physician. Usually during the restoration of the functionality of the legs, the following procedures are performed:
- Various exercises aimed at strengthening and relaxing the muscles of the legs, which are carried out exclusively in warm water.
- Several sessions of special therapeutic massage, which contributes to improved circulation of the injured leg.
- In the most severe cases, a course of electrophoresis with the use of potassium and novocaine is prescribed. This method is considered the most effective. He will help to get up in the shortest time.
If during the rehabilitation to perform all these procedures, this will significantly reduce the time to restore the functions of the legs and joints. Also, for the effectiveness of treatment, it can be supplemented with specialized exercises for the ankle. The main thing is not to overdo it - it will not lead to anything good.
